On this track I'm playing a gong I named Florentino.
Everyone hears gongs differently... different from one another, and different from one occasion to the next.... but the first time I played this gong I felt a great sadness about it, like an aching heart full of longing that it knows cannot be fulfilled.
I think that, though many of us struggle with sadness in our lives, we enjoy its depths and wonders when we hear it represented musically.
The Florentino after which this gong is named, is the character from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "Love in the Time of Cholera".
Florentino is a Neptune Planetary Gong, made by Paiste. Neptune is god of the sea (and horses) and when I play this gong I sometimes feel lost at sea, floating on the infinitely complex physics of water and sound, staring eyes full of wonder, at the stars above.
